University of Oklahoma Health Sciences Center researchers found as levels of growth hormone (hgh) and the protein IGR-1 increased, rats’ brain function improved dramatically.

Their findings appear in an upcoming issue of the journal Neuroscience, where they identify biochemical pathways in the brain that are altered between older brains with normal cognitive function and those that are cognitively impaired. The scientists hope to develop a treatment that regulates these pathways and prevents a decline in learning and memory with age.
