Doctors are worried that as the New Year begins, many Americans will resolve to be thinner in 2010 by using over-the-counter supplements. According to a survey conducted by ADSAM and SenseUs polling companies, about 60 percent of physicians feel troubled about the safety of taking diet pills. Not surprisingly, while physicians feel negatively about the safety of over-the-counter diet pills, they are much more comfortable about the use of injections like Botox and Restylane or even breast implants.

The results were surprising, considering America’s obsession with remaining fit and youthful. Additionally, the same survey showed that feelings about having breast augmentation or facial injections and using over-the-counter diet pills or Human Growth Hormone (HGH) for anti-aging created fear and stress among the large majority of consumers. Although consumers were apprehensive about over-the-counter solutions, the survey results discovered that they were more comfortable with diet pills than cosmetic procedures.

Lately, it has become common that a drug designed for one purpose gets a second life because of desirable side effects that have little or nothing to do with the original intent. Sometimes, the drug even gets a third life, like human growth hormone (HGH).When the other incarnations of the drugs have little or no apparent medical value, and are instead used for what amounts to pure vanity, should we be using biotech research to put them on the market? The answers are as varied as the products.

For instance, human growth hormone originally was intended for children with growth disorders. Then “older people seeking the fountain of youth and athletes wanting a boost started finding illegal suppliers of HGH for muscle growth and overall toning,” reported USA Today. HGH, a substance secreted by the pituitary gland, promotes growth during childhood and adolescence. The hormone acts on the liver and other tissues to stimulate production of insulin-like growth factor I, which is responsible for the growth-promoting effects of growth hormone and also reflects the amount produced.

We think we have to put up with degeneration when aging, but that is not true. Staying active is key for a healthy lifestyle, but what else can we do to benefit our bodies as we age?

The human growth hormone (HGH) might be a key element in feeling your best as you age. When HGH was first discovered, its only purpose was thought to be to stimulate body growth to adult size. Recent studies have found that one of the main reasons the body ages is because of the decrease in HGH, which helps the body regenerate.

The human body produces growth hormone at its peak between twenty to twenty-five years of age. After that, the body’s natural production decreases by approximately 14% per decade.

So why is this so important?  Well, when hGH replacement is properly administered by a doctor, it can make someone ten, fifteen or even twenty years past their prime look and feel years younger.  Imagine having the youth, vitality and the body of someone in their mid-twenties when you’re pushing forty.

Ponce Deleon searched all over Florida for it. Countless creams and lotions promise it. Bottles of supplements lining the shelves of GNC and health food stores claim the ability to do it.

Research has now discovered the real fountain of youth and it surprisingly lies smack in the middle of your health club’s weight room. We all know that lifting weights helps us to build muscle and tone but scientific studies have shown that lifting weights helps us improve longevity and health in several ways.

One major way is that weight lifting increases the level of growth hormone (HGH) secreted by the pituitary gland.

Think it’s only A-Rod and his pals who are taking steroids? Well, what about that actress who buffs up for an action film and cites a carrot juice diet? Sound suspect? Well, that’s because it could be …

The increasing pressure on celebrities, both male and female, athletes and actors, singers and dancers, to be perfect pushes them to extreme measures, and some will take anything they can to get an edge on the competition.

Besides illegal steroids, there is the business of using Human Growth Hormone, which can be legally prescribed, to slow and possibly reverse the aging process.

According to an April, 2007, New York Times report, some “25,000 to 30,000 Americans take injections of growth hormone for anti-aging purposes, paying up to $1,000 a month.” A certain percentage of those folks, of course, are stars — the people many of us admire. And Dr. Patricia Wexler does not approve:

Human Growth Hormone is unsafe. I know dermatologists and actresses who use it to slim abdominal fat and increase muscle tone and libido. But it can accelerate also a hidden cancer to grow. It can cause funny bone spurs to grow and enlargement of the heart … just to name a few of the many reasons why I consider it unsafe.

In other words, when you think you hear the fountain of youth gushing, get a second opinion.

HGH & Anti-Aging

August 22, 2008 | Leave a Comment

If we want to make an impact on diseases, attacking aging would have the greatest return for the effort, because if you beat aging you beat almost all the degenerative diseases in life.  Will human growth hormone (HGH) help?

What is aging?  Is aging the number of birthday candles on your birthday cake?  Or is aging rather the amount of wear and tear on your body and its systems?  I would suggest the latter.  There’s a lot of truth that you’re as old as you feel or you’re as old as your metabolism, is what I would suggest.  And so if it is merely a function of metabolism, and aging is primarily a function of metabolism then we should be looking at better ways to keep our metabolism young, because if our metabolism is young we’re young. That’s the basis of the thought of anti-aging medicine that is becoming popular today, and many physicians are prescribing humna growth hormone (HGH) for their HGH deficient patients.

More than 70 medical experts from around the world will gather at the Dubai Congress on Anti-Aging and Aesthetic Medicine (DCAAAM) in November.

The event will be an opportunity for local healthcare professionals to learn about the latest research in early detection, prevention, treatment and reversal of age-related diseases and the latest techniques on cosmetic surgery and aesthetics, say organisers.

According to Dr Robert Goldman, the co-founder of the A4M, the event is just the beginning of what his organisation plans to bring to the region.

Last January, Hollywood star Sylvester Stallone, 61, admitted to using human growth hormone (HGH) to prepare for his physically demanding roles in Rocky Balboa and Rambo, and endorsed them, saying they “increase your quality of life”.

Dr Goldman says the industry will continue to grow in leaps and bounds as awareness increases. “You can’t change your chronological age but you can adjust your physiology,” he says. “This is an industry that can only grow. It is like a billion-tonne elephant going down a hill.”

Here is some interesting information on what hgh does for us, and how it declines as we age:

Many researchers have concluded that one of the primary causes of aging is the decrease of hgh human growth hormone production.   According to Dr. Ronald Klatz, M.D., President of the American Academy of Anti-Aging Medicine, “Aging appears to be due in large part to the drastic decline of growth hormone in the body after adulthood.”

According to hgh human growth hormone research, at age 21, the normal level of circulating hgh is about 10 milligrams per deciliter of blood, but at age 61, it’s decreased 80% to only 2 milligrams. They say it’s growth hormone that grows the cells, bones, muscles, and organs, and it is the level of growth hormone after age 30 that slowly robs us of our youth.

After age 30, the secretion rate of hgh drops14% per decade.   By 80, most people barely produce enough hgh to build a fingernail, explaining why injuries experienced by seniors take so long to heal.

HGH has been called a miracle for many:

Touted as a wonder drug that builds muscle, sheds fat and restores youth, HGH has grown into a multibillion-dollar worldwide business, by some estimates. The only problem is, it’s not always a legal one. Though growth hormone has certain uses approved by the Food and Drug Administration, these don’t include anti-aging therapy, bodybuilding or athletic enhancement.
