Senate Addressing Steroids/HGH
September 30, 2009 | Leave a Comment
At a Senate hearing Tuesday addressing the alarming proliferation of steroids within the relatively unregulated nutritional supplements industry, the CEO of the U.S. Anti-Doping Agency said his organization was weeks away from announcing a new initiative that will propose regulatory reform of the supplements industry and will have the support of major professional sports leagues.
“The FDA is overburdened,” Sen. Hatch said, referring to the Food and Drug Administration, which has struggled to keep up with the burgeoning industry of bodybuilding supplements. “I blame Congress for a lot of these things. We don’t give you enough support.”
Hopefully the professional sports leagues would sign on to the U.S. Anti-Doping Agency, which oversees independent drug testing for American Olympic athletes. Although the professional leagues have teamed up with USADA to help fund research for human growth hormone (HGH) urine screening, they have largely shunned USADA’s anti-doping policies, which are much stricter than anything pro athletes face.

Grandpa Needs HGH…???
September 29, 2009 | Leave a Comment
Grandpa seems shorter than last year. Old men are grumpy. Oh, don’t worry about Earl _ he always nods off after lunch. Sometimes stereotypes are true. Men don’t like to think about it, but they face their own menopause, and shrinkage, crankiness and sleepiness can be the result. Male “andropause” is comparatively gentle: While menopause is a jump-off that can leave a woman in a new body in less than a year, men older than 30 lose only 1 percent of their testosterone annually. But the easiness of men’s decline doesn’t mean it isn’t a decline.
The natural medical response is to want to replenish low hormone levels. Yet no large-scale study has done for men what the massive Women’s Health Initiative did for women: Investigate the effects of replacing important sex hormones in the aging. But as demographic shifts bring an increasingly older population, male hormone replacement therapy, or HRT, is becoming a priority. “We’re trying to slow down the aging process,” said Dr. Ellen Binder of Washington University in St. Louis. “Daily activities, lifting groceries, climbing stairs, walking,” will all improve, she hopes. Other potential benefits include enhanced virility. This fall, Binder will coordinate a four-month study to give 20 St. Louis men ages 65 to 90 a topical testosterone gel and injections of human growth hormone (HGH). Binder plans more studies after this one, and hers is one of three across the country. Male HRT can encompass a number of hormones, and scientists know the short-term effects of many of them. For example, testosterone, the most important of these, prevents muscle loss and improves spatial-visual skills. That’s one reason baseball players benefit so much from taking testosterone and other substances like it, known as androgens.

Vitamin D Might Be Edging Out HGH
September 28, 2009 | Leave a Comment
Athletes are always trying to find ways to gain an edge and obviously we know a great deal about it because of steroid abuse and HGH (human growth hormone)Â and other supplements.
But according to researchers from the University of North Carolina, one common vitamin could help your athletic performance, and it’s one you might not think of: vitamin D. Vitamin D is thought to be primarily involved in bone development, but a growing body of research suggests it is vital in many different bodily functions, including allowing muscle fibers to develop and grow normally. The immune system also is very dependent on vitamin D. This information is relatively new, but studies are now being conducted to take a closer look.

Biopharmaceutical Market & HGH
September 25, 2009 | Leave a Comment
The biopharmaceutical market, estimated to be about $40 billion annually, is one of the fastest-growing segments of the life sciences industry.
When pharmaceutical giants Sandoz (Novartis), launched Omnitrope, its biosimilar version of human growth hormone (HGH) in Germany two years ago, the price was discounted 20% as compared with Eli Lilly’s Humatrope brand. Also, in Australia biosimilar versions of HGH are sold at a 25% discount as compared with their branded counterparts.

Miss South Dakota 2008: HGH & Steroids Have Huge Risk
September 24, 2009 | Leave a Comment
Although they may help break records, performance-enhancing substances aren’t worth the risk to athletes’ mental and physical health. That’s the message that was spread by Alexandra Hoffman when she was Miss South Dakota 2008. She’s still spreading it today. On Tuesday, she came to Yankton to share it with several local groups, including a speech at Mount Marty College’s Roncalli Center.
Other supplements, such as human growth hormone (HGH) are difficult to detect, anyway. “It’s so hard to test for HGH because it’s already in our body,†Hoffman said. “And so, for someone who tests us for HGH — and let’s say you just have more HGH than I do — well, where’s the cut-off? Where do we say, ‘If you have more than this level, you’re taking it’?†Hoffman said that although anabolic steroids and HGH are two of the most prevalent and dangerous performance-enhancing substances, they are by no means the only ones used by athletes. Caffeine, diuretics and alcohol used to excessive levels can count, as well, she said. “Keep in mind the levels of these drugs,†she said. “If you have a Mountain Dew and then go to practice, you’re not going to have an amazing practice because of the caffeine.†However, those enhancers don’t have the side effects of anabolic steroids, some of which include tumors, jaundice, hepatitis and depression.

Pituitary & HGH Discovery
September 22, 2009 | Leave a Comment
In 1931, chemists discovered that the pituitary gland contains a hormone, HGH, that controls growth.
Overactivity of the pituitary, which sits at the base of the brain, results in gigantism. Underactivity results in dwarfism. The discovery in 1931 eventually led to physicians treating children suffering from a deficiency of the hormone by injections of HGH obtained from the pituitaries of cadavers. More recently, scientists have discovered a way to produce genetically engineered HGH in bacteria.

Six Pack Abs & HGH
September 21, 2009 | Leave a Comment
How can we get a sex pack? One thing to remember is that rest is also key to getting lean. If you over work the muscle then it will take more time to reach your goal or even have you go backwards.
The reason rest is so vital is the key muscle building hormone (Human Growth Hormone or HGH) is produced more at times of rest and sleep giving your muscles everything the need to recover and grow.
A strict diet also needs to be put in place. Every person is different so this varies from one person to the next but generally have a high protein intake. Lean meats and steamed vegetables are a good dietary choice.
Perseverance is important as you wont get a six pack over night. Remember this takes time but with constant effort you will reach your goal weather that is to just lose a few pounds or to compete in a bodybuilding competition. Keep track of your meals and workouts.

Wrestler Cleared Of Illegal HGH Charge
September 17, 2009 | Leave a Comment
MCKEES ROCKS, Pa. — A judge has cleared professional wrestler and Olympic gold medalist Kurt Angle of charges he violated a protection order and illegally possessed human growth hormone.
Police in suburban Pittsburgh stopped Angle last month after he allegedly violated the protection order his then girlfriend, Trenesha Biggers, had gotten after they fought. Police said they found vials of human growth hormone (HGH)Â in Angle’s car.
The 40-year-old star of Total Nonstop Action Wrestling said he had a prescription for the HGH to treat neck injuries.
The judge on Tuesday also dismissed charges that Angle was driving with a suspended license.
Biggers — also a wrestler who goes by the stage name Rhaka Khan — did not comment outside court. Angle said he will be more careful about who he associates with in the future.

Exercise & HGH: Feel Younger
September 15, 2009 | Leave a Comment
Exercise is the best and least expensive way to look and feel young.
One of the most widely publicized anti-aging hormones is human growth hormone (HGH). HGH is renowned for its ability to stimulate muscle development, bone growth and fuel immune activity while switching your body into a potent fat burning machine—your body produces it naturally too. HGH provides many other benefits as well, such as enhancing skin repair (reducing wrinkling), restoring internal organs that have atrophied with age and reversing cognitive deterioration.
After age 20, our natural production of Human Growth Hormone begins to decline at an average rate of 14 percent per decade. However, strength building exercise that’s done at high intensity for short periods of time, greatly enhances HGH secretion, and is the best way to look and feel younger.
The best way to maximize HGH secretion is to: (a) exercise at high intensity: 80-100 percent maximum effort, and (b) exercise for a short duration: 5-15 minutes. Long duration exercise enhances the production of the stress hormone cortisol, which has a catabolic effect on the body. Many people today are over-exercising, which can severely dampen their weight loss, energy levels and immune function.
